Alfred Ronalds

If anyone can seriously claim to have changed the face of fly fishing forever, the best candidate must be Alfred Ronalds, who published a book on streamside entomology in 1836 that revolutionised the way anglers thought about the insects they were trying to imitate.

In this video, Andrew Herd ties one of Ronalds terrestrials and talks about the man and his favourite fly patterns, all of which can still be used to catch fish, even a century later

Alfred Ronalds is also featured in Andrew's book The History of Fly Fishing, which is the most comprehensive history of fly fishing available today. You can order the book by visiting this link.

You can learn more about Ronalds in Angling Giants, another classic from the amusing and informative pen of this well-known author. Read more about Angling Giants by clicking here and you can order a copy by following this link.
